Art Play for Curious Adults with Blaide Lallemand will introduce you to the work of different artists each week. Participants will be encouraged to respond by trying new approaches to art making in every class. All materials are provided.
Develop skills as you enjoy a chat and a cuppa in a friendly and supportive environment. Casual tickets are available throughout the year. You can also buy a package of 6 classes and receive $6 off each class. Tickets can be used across the year or shared with friends.
Term 3 – Domestic wonder and memento mori: the art of creating a still life!
Term 3 is all about exploring the intersection of domestic wonder with memento mori, where the still life becomes a profound stage. It elevates the ordinary…ripe fruit, crystal bowls, a ticking clock into a meditation on mortality, asking us to find the sacred in the mundane and beauty in the fleeting present.
Art play will examine the timeless tradition of still life through two fascinating lenses. The classic tradition of 16th century Vanitas and memento mori and the 20th century era!
Over the course of six weeks, we’ll cover a diverse range of artists. Each fortnight, we’ll spend time being inspired and examining an artist’s style, trying out their approaches to inform our own ability to make considered artistic choices, thereby growing our knowledge of “how to” and “why” in a relaxed and playful environment.
Art Play encourages people to explore different approaches to making art, working in a range of mediums: pencil, charcoal, watercolour paints and crayons, collage, pen, ink, gouache, oil and acrylic paints. These classes are ideal for the curious adult who may have little experience but has an impulse and desire to trust their creative self and develop their art abilities.
Week One and Two: Reflect on the classic tradition of Vanitas from the 16th and 17th century.
Week three and Four: Be inspired by Australia’s Margaret Olley still life’s.
Week Five and Six: Create and paint our own still life.

About the Artist
Blaide Lallemand takes an interdisciplinary approach to making works of art, fusing her interest in sculptural practices with a range of ephemeral practices including performance, new media and site-specific installation. Blaide is interested in immersing the audience into the artwork, enabling them to have a visceral experience and choice to actively participate with the realisation and evolution of the artwork.
Blaide studied acting at the University of Western Sydney before graduating from the ANU School of Art with first class Honours in 2003. She is interested in exploring cycles in nature, rhythms of the body and aspects of intimate social and physical relationships between people and their complex means of communication.
