In August, Come Write welcomes special guest Andra Putnis, who will guide the monthly writing session with writing prompts and a discussion about her writing process. Andra Putnis is an Australian writer living on Ngunnawal and Ngambri country in Canberra with her partner and two children. Her first book, Stories My Grandmothers Didn’t Tell Me, was published by Allen & Unwin in July 2024. It charts the lives of her two Latvian grandmothers and uses vivid storytelling to reveal the trials and triumphs these remarkable women went through as they survived the Second World War and journeyed through war-torn Europe to Australia. Andra has undertaken many writing courses and mentorships and loves to discuss all things writing and reading. In 2001 she completed a Bachelor of Arts / Law at the Australian National University (majoring in History) and is currently finalising a master’s degree specialising in qualitative research and storytelling.
Writing may be solitary, but you don’t have to go it alone! Come Write is a casual monthly drop-in writing session where creatives get together for a focussed writing time. Whether you’re tinkering away at a poem, wrangling a fiction project, or dreaming up experimental new works, we’d love for you to Come Write with us! Entry is free, or by donation but registrations are appreciated.
