ART PLAY FOR CURIOUS ADULTS led by visual artist Blaide Lallemand, introduces participants to the work of different artists each week, with participants trying new approaches to art making in every class. Develop art making skills as you enjoy a chat, and a cuppa in a friendly and supportive environment.

Over 6 consecutive Saturdays we will analyse and draw inspiration from three iconic Australian artists who have created powerful and intriguing portraits. We will play with a range of materials including: watercolour, ink, gouche, acrylics, pen, mixed media and glitter!

Bring along printed photos of your self or loved ones to use as a starting point.

  • Week, one and two will investigate and respond to Joy Hester’s haunting emotive portraits.
  • Week three and four will examine the figurative expressionism of Brett Whiteley.
  • Week five and six will examine the graphic and detailed symbolic imagery of Del Kathryn Barton.

This series allows us to be bold and get personal when delving into the lyrical, expressive and symbolic world when creating powerful portraits.

About the Artist

Blaide Lallemand takes an interdisciplinary approach to making works of art, fusing her interest in sculptural practices with a range of ephemeral practices including performance, new media and site-specific installation. Blaide is interested in immersing the audience into the artwork, enabling them to have a visceral experience and choice to actively participate with the realisation and evolution of the artwork.

Blaide studied acting at the University of Western Sydney before graduating from the ANU School of Art with first class Honours in 2003. She is interested in exploring cycles in nature, rhythms of the body and aspects of intimate social and physical relationships between people and their complex means of communication.
