Enjoy this playful introduction to the art of gelli plate printing with printmaker and mixed media artist Jo Hollier. Using acrylic paints create various backgrounds and build up layers of colour and texture using stencils and found materials such as lace and leaves to make negative and positive prints. Gelli printing is a quick, accessible and easy way to make simple prints that can be embellished further using mixed media or used in collage. Incorporate wax resist and stamps to push the creative possibilities. Add to your technical skill set and be surprised at the creativity unleashed. This 1-day workshop will be followed by the Make an Artist Book masterclass in Term 2.
About Jo Hollier
Jo Hollier is an Australian artist and printmaker who works from her studio on the outskirts of Canberra, ACT. Her joyful works reflect a deep respect for the natural world interpreted and influenced by a love of colour, texture and design. Jo Hollier’s work has been widely exhibited both within Australia and Internationally, through 19 solo and numerous group and selected exhibitions. Jo also was the recipient of the Canberra’s Critics Circle award for Visual arts in 2013 and the Tall Foundation Inaugural Art prize for 3D work in 2015
