Gelli printing is an experimental, spontaneous, and highly enjoyable process—easy to learn and often quickly addictive. Throughout this course, you’ll explore the wide range of creative possibilities this versatile medium offers. Guided by printmaker Jo Hollier, you’ll be encouraged to work in a playful, open, and fearless way. The course introduces a variety of techniques, including creating textures with found materials, incorporating botanical elements, working with stencils, and developing expressive brush marks. As your confidence grows, you’ll be invited to experiment with image transfers, exploring wax resist methods, and combining gel printing with traditional drawing techniques. Suitable for complete beginners, this course is ideal for anyone curious to explore printmaking, regardless of prior experience.
About the Artist
Jo has been a full time practising artist/ printmaker based in Canberra ACT Australia for more than 20 years. She is a prominent figure in supporting the arts in the ACT and Australia, and also teaches drawing, painting, etching and printmaking.
During this time she has built on her arts practice and participated in practical ways within the local arts community. Through this involvement she has played a major part in coordinating exhibitions and events which promote the activities of members within these artists groups.
Drawing is the basis of Hollier’s art making; ideas for prints are born from her original sketches. The drawing evolves from pencil and paper to acid and zinc or some other print medium. Even though Jo also loves to paint and collage, printmaking is the core of her work.
Jo has held 20 solo exhibitions and been part of many selected and group exhibitions locally, nationally and overseas. She was recipient of 2025 Canberra Critic’s Circle visual Arts award for her most recent solo exhibition “Creek Walks” at Belconnen Arts centre ACT
