An exhibition of prints and poetry by Kevin Gilbert, that recalls the artist, the writer and the activist, beginning in what would have been his 92nd year. Celebrate his life and art with images and poetry created during his lifetime
along with some works editioned for the first time.
TRUE: Kevin Gilbert (1933–1993) comprises of at least 15 fine art lino prints expressing Gilbert’s core themes of a spiritual presence enhancing the cultural survival of his People against the seemingly insurmountable odds in an oppressive colonial system. His poetry is displayed on fine silk hangings, along with his black and white photographic prints.
About the Artist
Kevin Gilbert, Wiradjuri, is recognised as the first Aboriginal fine art printmaker. Gilbert is also a poet, playwright and activist. He led the Treaty ’88 campaign advocating for sovereign treaty/ies in the lead up to the Bicentennary and was instrumental is re-establishing the Aboriginal Embassy. He is also an award-winning author.
