History of Fresh Funk

In 1998 Caroline ‘Leena’ Wall and Geza Szanto, Year 12 students at Erindale College decided to enter their School into the ACT Rock Eisteddfod.  This experience in choreography, producing and directing a show proved to be the catalyst for the beginnings of the Fresh Funk Program at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre.

What started in the year 2000 as a simple one-class-a-week youth program, is now considered to have changed the landscape of dance in the ACT.

In 2004, Leena became a permanent staff member of the Arts Centre, to assist with the growing requirement for program administration and to lead the creative development of Fresh Funk.  Today over 300 dancers are enrolled in Fresh Funk participating in an exciting annual program of 18 term-based classes, regular masterclasses, 2 large scale shows, and 2 Fresh Faced Choreographers Initiatives.
