Weaving Waters | Mandji the Murray Cod | Aug – Nov

Details

Tuggeranong Arts Centre’s public art program Weaving Waters: Mandji the Murray Cod invites the community to participate in the making of a giant Murray Cod sculpture through hand weaving, learn about the Murray Cod through a program of speakers, and help our local Murray Cod at a family friendly community fishing day and Carp off.

TAC’s artist vision, in conjunction with sculptural design by Steven Holland and the extraordinary engineering achievements of MAG Welding Services – has resulted in the creation of our 4-metre-long steel Murray Cod. And now, Mangi is ready to come to life. Sign up for a 6-week course, drop-in for fortnightly weaving sessions and then join us for the official launch of our lakeside sculpture at the 2026 Craft + Design Festival in November.

Mangi will be situated on the shores of Lake Tuggeranong where Murray Cod live. The sculpture is a feature of the 2026 Craft + Design Canberra Festival, who generously supported this community art program and the Weaving Waters: Mandji the Murray Cod program. The making of Mandji celebrates community art making as a way of drawing attention to the environment. Tuggeranong Arts Centre is delighted to be part of the 2026 Craft + Design Canberra Festival from 7 – 15 November, 2026.
