Tuggeranong Arts Centre is offering Quick Response Activations of up to $5000 for individual artists or $10,000 for arts collectives, groups or organisations to support a creative endeavour.
Designed to activate the South Canberra region of Woden, this is an opportunity for artists/groups to think creatively, to showcase artistic practice and to work with the Woden community.
The project activity must take place in Woden and engage with Woden audiences and participants. Applications should include community engagement and collaborations. Suburban locations and multi-artform proposals are encouraged.
Past Woden Activation Projects
Projects funded in 2025 include A Sense of Place with artist Mariana Del Castillo and Woden’s World, led by Liz Lea and the Stellar Company.
A Sense of Place brought together members community over a series of weekend workshops at Pearce Community Centre. Participants designed and decorated their own house structures, reflecting on their current home or childhood home. The project accumulated into a pop-up exhibition at the Farrer Neighbourhood Watch Family Fun Day in October.
Woden Town Square burst to life as twelve vibrant community arts groups united to celebrate International Day of People with Disability at Woden’s World. Each local group shared their own unique performance, culminating in a powerful finale and a breathtaking five minutes of silent stillness, which was livestreamed internationally through a special partnership with ON DISPLAY Global.
Projects funded in 2024 include Daydream Procession with artist Tom Buckland and Julia Higgs, Words on the Wind with artist Lynn Petersen, Plein Air Drawing with John Hart, and Curtin Open Studio Sessions with Sophie Edwards.
The Daydream Procession drop-in workshops brought together people who met in Eddison Park over a series of weekend workshops. Taking inspiration from their parkland setting, participants created large-scale puppet armatures with cardboard and paper-mache, had fun decorating them, then became puppeteers in public performances.
Scores of community members and school students came together for Words on the Wind, a project with artist Lynn Petersen. Participants celebrating their favourite literary quote by creating Australian author inspired pennants, banners and flags that were displayed near Tree of Knowledge, the public artwork at Garran shops.
Singer songwriter Sophie Edwards created an original song using sound samples collected from public spaces around Curtin. She also opened her studio and invited interested members of the public for a peek into her working process and the production involved in creating an original recording.
