Battle of the Bands is back for 2024 and here to shake things up and make a scene. Participating bands will get to perform live onstage, and gain experience working with other musicians and planning gigs. They’ll also get a professionally recorded and edited video of their band performing live, be part of the ongoing development of the southside’s music scene and be paid for their time. Interested family and friends will be able to come along to support young bands in the making of a music video and at a performance later in the year. Young musicians aged 13-25 with any connection to Tuggeranong are invited to join the band line-up!  Apply for the opportunity to meet other musicians, perform onstage, create a music video, and continue to build the southside youth music scene.

Application Guidelines

• Applications are open now and close at Midnight on Thursday 1 August. All applications must include a one-minute video showing all band members performing
• Any supporting images not uploaded with the online form must be emailed to battleofthebands@tuggeranongarts.com within 24 hours

Bands selected for the competition

• Must be a part of all of the associated events
• Agree to have their videos published by TAC and Battle of Bands
• Will create video content and conduct their live performances in a manner suitable for all age audiences

What happens next

• Online applications will be reviewed by the judging panel on Friday 2 August
• Up to 26 bands will be selected to be part of the 2024 competition line-up
• Successful bands will be notified in writing on Friday 2 August
• Participating bands will be given a 15-minute performance spot at the Open Mic Heats on either Thursday 8 August or Monday 19 August
• The judges will select 8 bands to go into the next round
• The 8 finalists will get to have an edited video of a live performance and gigs at events happening during SouthFest

Band Meet Up

Not ready to apply, but interested in performing or getting involved? Come along to the Band Meet Up event on Saturday 6 July. Meet other young musicians, look at forming a band, network, and learn more about the new event! You can also make a zine and have a snack while you chat with other young people about your plans for 2024’s round of Battle of the Bands!

Open Mic style heats

• Up to 26 bands will perform 15-minute sets, over two nights, in the Open Mic style heat events
• The heats will be held on Thursday 8 August and Monday 19 August at Tuggeranong Arts Centre
• Bands will perform for the judging panel and live audience. 8 finalists will be selected to go into the fianl round.
• Family and friends are welcome to come along to the Open Mic events. Limited tickets will be available. Bookings will open on the 3 August

Live Video Recordings & Live Performance

• 8 finalists will get to have an edited video of a live performance in the TAC theatre. Recording sessions will take place over two evenings in September
• The videos will screen in the TAC Theatre as part of TAC’s Grand Day Out event happening as part of SouthFest
• Finalists will also be invited to perform live at the SouthFest events
• Finalists will be paid an artist fee for the recording session and live performances.
